Production: Day 1 Filming behind the Scenes

 For filming behind the scenes, it was very challenging. Trying to make sure everyone understands their role and knows what they're supposed to do. In some areas there was a lot of confusion and miscommunication, and in other parts we got through it quickly. It was hectic but we were all able to work together to get the movie done.

Production: Cast and Crew

 The cast/crew of our film was a handful of people. Many played multiple roles and the movie turned out great. The camera person (Richard) was also the editor and both roles were worked hard on. I was the director. Me and everyone in my team were responsible for the planning and we also contributed parts in the editing and certain shots being taken. The protagonist, and the boyfriend, best friend, background characters. It was all a team process.

Production: Location

 The location of our film was at a high school. We named this school Franklin High for our movie. Our movie is based on teens and their love and drama, so a school was the best fit. Throughout the whole movie that is where the movie took place. Classrooms, Hallways, Bathrooms, etc. 

Pre-production: Script

 The script of our movie was well written and some was improvised. We wanted our movie to have an authentic feeling and also be relatable and not fake vibes. In certain scenes the cast made up conversations and did actions to follow up with it. And for other scenes we told them what they had to say and the type of appearance they had to do while saying it. And the type of action they had to have in the moment, attitude, expression were all needed.

Lisa (Narration): This is my boyfriend Akeem, I met him in a ninth grade biology class, and ever since then we’ve been a couple 

Akeem: What class you going to? 

Lisa: I have Mr. Anderson 

Akeem: So what are you gonna do? You gonna go to class right now? 

Lisa: Yea, Im gonna go talk to my best friend (Smiling expression) Dana. 

Akeem: Whos that? 

Lisa: Thats my best friend, shes in my class. 

Akeem: She a sophomore too? 

Lisa: Yea 

Akeem: Well have a great day 

Lisa: You too! 

 

NEXT SCENE 

Lisa (Narration): This is Dana, we’ve been best friends ever since kindergarten, and now its almost like she’s a sister to me, I dont know what I’d do without her. 

Lisa: Hi, how are you? 

Dana: Good what about you? 

Lisa: Im good 

Dana: Did you hear about that rumor thats been spread? 

Lisa: What rumor? 

Dana: About you cheating on your boyfriend? It's been all over the place 

Lisa: I have no clue about this 

 

NEXT SCENE 

Lisa: Nothings real, nothings real, I dont know what to do... 

(Group of kids walk by) 

Group: Mhm... 

Lisa: Do yall know who told people I cheated? 

Group: That girl over there (points). 

 

Pre-production: Storyboards

 The storyboards were useful in the development of our movie. It helped us organize our ideas and get a preview of how and where our movie would be set up. It helped us brainstorm which is an important reason why writers, editors, directors etc use this method. They help give your movie structure and is important in planning. We went through multiple and even used some as practice or pre planning for our movie.

Pre-production: Shotlist

 Our shot list insisted of many things, the certain conversations or actions that were going to take place involved certain shots for specific areas. We used many techniques and examples from what we learned and applied to them to our film. Like for the preview of our school in the beginning we used an establishing shot. For the conversation between the protagonist and her friend we used an shot/reverse shot. For her walking down that hallway we used a wide full body shot. And for her bathroom scene an over the shoulder close up shot.

Pre-production: Save the Cat Beat Structure and Exposition of Film

 For our opening image, Lisa talks to her boyfriend and than walks to class happily after their conversation. Than Lisa is met with the rumor of her cheating, that is going around the school. After she finds out she starts going around asking everybody who may have an idea about her situation. What is she going to do about the rumor.

Pre-Production: Defining the Setting

  The setting of our movie took place at a school. Franklin High. The appearance was to give off actual highschool vibes, and for it to be set up a certain way. The long hallways and medium sized classrooms. Classwork hanged up on walls and positive affirmations everywhere. The boards written all over them and not to mention the different groups of students. Classmates conversating and laptops used as props. Paper and pencils on desk and bookbags. We also showed a preview outside of the school and certain scenes filmed in the bathroom.

Pre-Production: Defining Characters

 The characters in our movie are diverse but also the same. Different shade complexions and cultural backgrounds. We wanted something that could be easily related to, so there were mixtures of both genders in this film. Main character being darksin and tall, natural hair and weave. The boyfriend being a lighter complexion with dark curly hair. Some of the background characters were tall and some short. Some of their hair appeared braided or puffed out, and some also different colors.

Pre-production: Development of Film

 For the development of our film, it was a whole process. Me and one of my teammates (Richard) were the one's behind the action. He was recording and I was the director. The other two of our teammates weren't here so we had to improvise and start without them. We filmed our movie on school campus, the hallways, bathrooms, classrooms, etc were all major part is set design that contributed to making our film. 

Pre-production: General Information of Film

 Welcome to blog post 31! The general information about our film. Our film surrounds high school love. Two kids that are in a relationship and which takes a hard turn. A rumor gets spread on the girl and all of a sudden her image starts to tarnish. She's trying to find out who would do something like that to her and along the way things unravel. A major plot twist happens at the end.

Pre-production: Production Company Logo

 The name of me and my team's production name is PH Studios. This name is something me and my teammates came together to agree on. We got the inspiration from our actual school's name (Piper High School. We took the first two initials of our actual school and put them together. Our name had to be something simple and not to extravagant.

Pre-production : Group Responsibilities

 Let's now enter into pre-production. Some of our responsibilities insisted of us making sure each part we had on our assignment got completed. And also, to make sure our movie is well structured and organized. We were responsible for making a word document for our two-minute film opening and discussing it. Our genre is romance because that's what we agreed on, we had to pick a movie that we could analyze, and also consider everything that will go into our movie. Will it be mainstream? niche? etc.  

Research Part 6 : Sound Codes

 In this blog, which is part 6... we talk about sound codes. This part two of my teammates were responsible for, Skye and Richard. Sound codes help support the genre for a film. The sound in the opening of the film has dialogue that lets the audience knows what's going on. Words like boyfriend and helps the audience understand that they're in terms of a relationship. And that there's an emotional connection between the two. Elle and Lee. In the graph below it shows a form of information that helped me and my team better understand sound codes/techniques.

Dialogue	List 2 lines that connect audiences to the genre of the film and connotations of the film’s opening.  How does the dialogue define the main character? Their personality and their world.  “You have zero experience with guys. You’ve never even had a boyfriend”  “Nobody can know, at least until I tell Lee”  “In life you can either follow the rules or follow your heart”	The dialogue in the film indicates romantic connotations with terms like “boyfriend” and “follow your heart”. Theres also drama connotations with the second quote mentioning secrecy. The dialogue defines the main characters personality as well as arcs she has in the movie. From desparate for love to finding herself.
Sound effects	Phone notification chime   Pants ripping	Elle gets phone notification and hides it from her best friend. This connects audiences to the genre because the message is teen relationship drama. The sound of Elle’s pants ripping connects the audience to the genre because it shows the behind the scenes of a teenage girl.
Music	List the music used in the film opening that supports the tone.  Robbie Nevil – Crash Into Me  Walkthemoon – Shut up and Dance	The music supports the tone   by bringing a vibrant tone as well as modern pop giving off joyous and happy connotations.
