Preliminary Exercise 5 : Analyzing Genre

Welcome to blog post 5! Today I got to put in all my artistic ways to use lol. In this poster, me and my partner made a demonstration of the different types of film genres. The genre we picked was horror with our subgenre Supernatural. We listed a variety of things that falls under the category. Costumes, makeup, settings, etc. We used the movie "IT" as an example/demonstration of a horror film and noted some of the stuff to look forward to when it comes to horror.

I had the general information for the film, and I analyzed and gave a little background about the film. The title, and what film studio produced it. It's box office and director, the genre and how much the production costed. The year it released and even a brief summary of the film. Preliminary Exercise 3 : What is Mise en Scene

Blog post day 3! We're already so far in. Today we'll be speaking on the importance of Mise en Scene. The concept of Mise en Scene is everything that appears infront of the camera, so think about it.... sets, props, costumes, etc. The purpose of Mise en Scene is to portray the meaning and mood of a film, and also allow the director to show their message and sense of style. The elements of Mise en Scene include the setting, acting, costumes, hair & makeup, color, set design, composition, and lighting. Spider-Man Far From Home is one of my favorite films, probably because Spider-Man is one of my favorite superheroes lol. The tone of this movie was aggressive and heroic, Peter Parker had a lot of saving to do, protecting Europe and his friends from the wrath of the bad guys. The fight scenes and all. And throughout the movie the tone/mood changes, to love, grief, happiness at times. It's a multi feeling movie. Understanding Mise en Scene is important to the genre of film because it allows viewers to watch it in a deeper perspective, opening their eyes to every detail for a better experience.

*REFLECTION*

The activities objective was to take a film no later than 2019 and use it to create a graphic organizer for Mise en Scene. They always say being different is the key, the graphic organizer wasn't working for me and had somewhat problems, so instead I did a PowerPoint. Same information and followed the task directions don't get mad lol, just not a graphic organizer. The media text I created was a PowerPoint, of "Spider-Man Far From Home". The purpose of this assignment was to expand our understanding of Mise en Scene. I used PowerPoint on the school's laptop and my personal PC to complete this assignment, I also used my phone for research on the Internet (Google). I learned a lot like the elements of Mise en Scene and how they work in film. That's all for today, hope you enjoyed today's activity until next time <3.

Preliminary Exercise 2 : Barthe's theory of semiotics

                            Barthe's Theory of Semiotics
In this post we talk about Roland Barthe, he was a French philosopher and theorist. He studied the relationship between denotation and connotation. He theorized that a text has multiple meanings, and signs are denotative and connotative. In this PowerPoint that me and partner (Marie) worked on, I put the first slide that started our intro to the part on Barthe's theory. The slide also defines denotation, connotation, and myth listing what they mean. His theory relates to film because every sign is either denotative or connotative. The ideas, beliefs, culture, and interest of a character or society also revolves around what he believed. In the table below it shows us analyzing a clip from the mocking jay. We talked about the location the clip took place, the acting and costumes, and the denotative and connotative meaning behind each. Like for the acting the denotative meaning was "the audience is surprised and upset" and the connotative meaning was "The crowd was surprised by the news, which lit their faces". The technology used the create this my laptop/phone, I'd consider myself an expert. This is a PowerPoint presentation and the meaning behind creating it was to introduce Barthe's theory and how it relates to film. This practically sums up everything I learned.

Preliminary Exercise 1 : Ferdinand Saussure's Theory Semiotics

        Saussure's Theory Of Semiotics

This image talks about Saussure's Semiotic Theory. It introduces what Saussure believed what to be true about Semiotics. The signified and the signifier, and most importantly the signs. It defines the definition of each and explains how it relates to what he's saying. Signs are the smallest units of meaning, they provide information with the little they show. The signified is the meaning/idea expressed by the signifier. It backs up the signifier. The signifier is a signs physical form/object. It describes the sign appearance and demonstrates it. My partner and I, (Marie) put together a presentation that goes into depth about semiotics.
This presentation talks about Saussure's Theory. Me and my partner gave multiple examples and put them in a formation of  a graph. We listed the signifier's and the signified and explained the use of signs. My partner and I also gave the definitions for each word and explained the slides/information as we went ahead.

Welcome To My Aice Media Blog

What is the importance of Media Studies ? Well to me, it would be analyzing data and understanding it more beyond measures. Taking my time to really understand what's being portrayed while enjoying it's unique ways. Some of my favorite media is watching movies and listening to music. The reason I find myself consuming it the way I do is because its relaxing. Listening to music always helps me focus more while doing school work, cleaning, or even to just catch a vibe. It's engaging to people in my friend group because it's something they can also relate to, and sometimes finding themselves do it to. Three things that I personally find interesting in Media Studies is the different types of Media's we analyze every morning for Warm Up, the different assignments we always have to do, and most importantly the technology.

The type of media product I will be documenting on here is somewhat in the educational/drama area. Being able to learn something while still being entertained. That's the film I hope I can create. I'm creating it for the audience so they can can get a insight of both worlds, I feel like that can show them something that's they're probably not familiar with. That'd be the message, and where I'd learn to do it is doing my personal research. I plan to drop it in a couple months.

Four strategies would be staying focused. Expanding my resources and planning everything out. Asking questions and finding new techniques. They'll help me be successful in getting a high score cause once it's set up it'll be completely organized and everything that's asked of will be showed.
